one day i was working on this piece of music and for some reason the author W. Somerset Maugham popped into my head.  the only thing i'd read of his was The Razor's Edge years earlier.  remember that story these many years later,  i'd found that i somehow related to his main character, who after the trauma of World War 1 spends the rest of his life looking for happiness and the "meaning" of life. 
 
anyway, i'm sitting there trying to remember exactly how his name is pronounced when with a slip of the tongue out comes "somersault dawn".  i liked the image so i used it for the title.
