Ike Stubblefield is another dear friend I met during the Granny’s Bathwater years.  Ike would travel through Nashville from time to time and whenever he did we’d always set aside time to write one or two songs together, including this one.  Recorded at Recording Arts in Nashville with Ike on keyboards, Mike Brignardello on bass, Chris Rodriguez on electric guitar, Bill Jones on tenor sax and Lisa Rodriguez and Donna McElroy doing background vocals.  I can’t recall who was playing drums.

Lyrics

I’m with you every day but you’ve never noticed
To you I’m just a face on the street outside
But you don’t even know that I live next to ya’
No you don’t know the color of my eyes
Yours are blue like the summer sky
I wish I knew why they don’t see me

But you don’t ever look, no you never even notice
It’s like I don’t exist in the same world as you do
Maybe I’m in black and white or a little out of focus
Cause everyday another change goes by and the moment is lost
In the blink of an eye

I can’t sleep at night in this room next to ya’
Knowing you’re so close yet so far away
But I’m the one who holds you in your dreams
I’m the lover that you’ve never seen
But everyday you just walk right by

And you don’t ever look, no you never even notice
It’s like I don’t exist in the same world as you do
Maybe I’m in black and white or a little out of focus
Cause everyday another change goes by and the moment is lost
In the blink of an eye

I just keep on waiting – but you don’t see me
        Waiting, waiting
For you to see the love in my eyes

But you don’t ever look, no you never even notice
It’s like I don’t exist in the same world as you do
Maybe I’m in black and white or a little out of focus
Cause everyday another change goes by and the moment is lost
In the blink of an eye
